Decathletes face multiple obstacles in coming together | Universal Sports

en months after Bryan Clay floated the notion of he, Trey Hardee, and Ashton Eaton training together ahead of the London Olympics, America's three best decathletes, who will compete in tonight's 104th Millrose Games, are no closer to that goal.

NEW YORK -- Moments after he and teammate Trey Hardee collected their gold and silver medals at the World Indoor Championships in Doha and one day after Ashton Eaton set the world record in the heptathlon at the NCAA indoor championships, Bryan Clay laid the framework for American dominance in the decathlon.

"We definitely want to get together and get some training in," Clay proclaimed. "If we can, I'm telling you right now there is absolutely no reason why we cannot go 1-2-3 in a major championship meet. It sounds like a lofty goal, but if you look at the talent that we're producing right now, it's unbelievable."

The caveat to that of course was securing the requisite funding to make it happen.

eaton had a point when he said a little togetherness might be beneficial; but their competiveness would turn daily workouts into battle royal competitions.
