Williams clears 2.34, sets Mt. SAC meet record
OTC Elite high jumper Jesse Williams opened up his 2011 outdoor season on Saturday with a meet-record-setting performance at the Mt. SAC Relays. Williams was the only athlete to clear 2.34 meters (7 feet, 8 inches) on a warm afternoon in Walnut, Calif. And he took the meet record (a mark set in 1992 by Hollis Conway) by three quarters of an inch. The 2.34 bar – which Williams cleared on his first attempt – also equals the North Carolina native’s outdoor lifetime best. And it puts him over the IAAF World Championships ‘A’ Standard of 2.31. Williams, who has an indoor personal best of 2.36 had three solid attempts at 2.37 to end the competition. Videos: More news |
