What is your favorite and/or least favorite workout? My favorite workout has always been repeat 400s. It allows me to put spikes on and realize that there's a race coming up soon!

Do you have any superstitions? In high school, one of my teammates said that he could beat me in a race while he wore football pads. After four years of hard work, I finally beat him - without pads - in a race. I feel that I always run my best when I think about this moment before races nowadays.

Why have you chosen to live and train in Eugene? Eugene is one of the best places in the country to train, in my opinion. In combination with very comfortable weather year-round, Eugene is home to so many wonderful resources. I'm extremely lucky to have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with OTC Elite!!

What is the most challenging moment you’ve faced as an athlete? Not making top seven on my cross country team as a freshman in high school. My focus and dedication to the sport improved dramatically after that point. My high school team won a state championship that year, so I was pretty disappointed to not have the opportunity to run at the state championship that year.

How would you win The Hunger Games? Create an allegiance with both teams and make those teams turn against each other.

What would be your super power and why? Wolverine's ability to heal himself. I've constantly dealt with injuries over the course of my career, but I've always bounced back. I don't let setbacks get in the way of my goals.

What is your spirit animal/what animal do you relate to? Koalas! They value happiness, friends, cuddling and sleep.

What is your most epic workout/ race ever? Two races I'd like to mention: My sophomore year, I helped Haverford College win its first NCAA Cross Country Championship. Our top-5 earned all-American honors. It was a fairytale ending to a truly magical season, where we won conference and regional titles, too. I passed 30 people in the last mile and got my first all-American honor. Plus, I found out later that I ran that race on a femoral stress fracture. And my junior year: The Centennial Conference Cross Country Championships were held despite a freak snowstorm in October. The weather was so bad that all the other sports had to postpone their games. Nonetheless, cross country decided to have a meet in the blizzard. It was my first victory in college.

What is your favorite track and field meet? Of meets that I've competed in: Penn Relays. Of meets that I've watched: Prefontaine Classic.

What drives you to work so hard? There are always doubters out there, so I want to prove them wrong. I'm not super talented; I have to make the most of the talent that I do have; Injuries over the years have made me realize how much I love this sport and how much I miss not being able to run for periods of time; whenever I have to miss time, I feel that if I can just get healthy again, I'll be due for a big improvement in fitness.

What is an interesting fact about you that we may not know? I don't remember things unless I write things down. So, if you tell me to meet you somewhere, I'll probably pull my planner out of my backpack and start writing things down mid-conversation. And yes, I still use a paper planner.

What is the coolest experience you’ve had as a Nike athlete? Volunteering at McKenzie High School in the fall. Some of us did a track workout together and then helped cheer on high school runners during a district XC race. The kids and parents were just so happy that we came out to the meet; they were so enthusiastic to hear about our training and racing plans for the year. It made me feel so lucky to be in Oregon - where so many people love track and appreciate the hard work we pour into this sport every day.

What is your dream job after your athletic career? Product developer at the Nike Campus.

Who or what has been your greatest inspiration as an athlete? A few people: My dad, because of his work ethic in the pool every day and his mental toughness. My mom, because of her perseverance with her own running and love of the sport. My cousin, Matt Szylit. He was an elite Australian miler in the 1960s and helped get me interested in running as a kid. It was always cool hearing about his races on old-school cinder tracks.

What do you do to unwind after a long season? Travel someplace new.

What is the key to your success? Have a plan. Write mistakes down. Learn and build.

Which teammate inspires you and why? Ciaran, Julia and J-Mac. They've dealt with SO MANY INJURIES but have still improved every year. They are models athletes for doing all of the little things right (and they're wonderful people too).

What are your other favorite sports? Hockey and soccer, both of which I used to play before I started training seriously for track.

What makes you different? I'm a sculptor!
