What is your favorite track and field meet? I've always enjoyed the Drake Relays because of the crowd and atmosphere. The high school athletes, the fans they bring, and the way the community and really the whole state buys into that meet is fantastic. I also really like the Festival of Miles in St. Louis. Its a great community event, they raise money for a family in need, and they put on some top notch races. Its always been a dream of mine to return home to St. Louis and win the festival of miles.
What drives you to work so hard? Words to live by from my grandpa "Find something you love, be great at it, and you won't work a day in your life." From a veteran who hated his job and worked 40 years without missing a single day, this really meant a lot me. I've always had a competitive attitude and a lot of passion for everything I do and running is no different.
If you could road trip across the country with anyone, who would it be? I took a 2000+ mile road trip with Shannon Leinert last summer when we moved to Eugene, and that went pretty well so I think I'd go anywhere with her. My generic celebrity answer would probably be Harrison Ford because who wouldn't want to go exploring with Han Solo!
What is your dream job after your athletic career? My first choice would be designing medical devices or other engineering design work. I enjoy the challenge and process of creating something new and solving difficult problems so any job that provides those things would be great.
What do you do to unwind after a long season? In the off season I like to share a few of my home brewed beers with friends and teammates. I also really enjoy playing some tennis, soccer, or basketball, going camping or traveling, and especially visiting all the family and friend's I miss while training and competing.
