What is your favorite and/or least favorite workout? Favorite workout: Fast 200 meter repeats. Least favorite: mile repeats.

Why have you chosen to live and train in Eugene? Eugene has the best year-round environment for high level training. The trails within Eugene are awesome and it’s only a short drive to many other great running locations. The community is also very supportive. I’m really looking forward to running my first race at Hayward Field in OTC green.

What is the most challenging moment you’ve faced as an athlete? I’ve had a string of injuries that have been very frustrating. My 2012 season was going very well leading up to the Olympic Trials then I was forced to end my season because of a freak injury. Though that injury has healed, I’ve been dealing with other issues that were created as a result ever since. I didn’t get to race much on the track last year and I’m really hoping things turn around this year.

Why have you chosen to run for Coach Rowland? Coach Rowland is the best in the business. As a steeplechase athlete, I’ve already learned so much from him. I have complete trust and faith in Coach Rowland’s plan for my running.

What is your favorite track and field meet? Last year was the first time that I was able to attend the Prefontaine Classic. It was an awesome experience as a spectator, but this year I hope to be a part of the meet as a participant.

What drives you to work so hard? I am working for the privilege of representing the USA in major world track and field meets, including the Olympic Games. I always have that goal in the back of my mind when things get tough during workouts.

What is an interesting fact about you that we may not know? I grew up on a horse farm and trained and showed horses until I went to college. My horse and I were even International Champions one year. My favorite show events were always the jumping events.

What is your dream job after your athletic career? Coming out of college, my plan was to attend Veterinary Medicine school and become a veterinarian specializing in Equine therapy. That was all before I found out that I was actually pretty good at this whole running thing. I would still love to be a vet, but with each year the thought of returning to school becomes more and more daunting.

What do you do to unwind after a long season? I like to take at least two weeks away from running where I try to function like a normal human being. The body needs a break every once in a while as does the mind. If it works into our schedule, my husband, Nick, and I try to get away for a few days with our dogs.

What are your other favorite sports? My favorite sport is basketball. I started playing when I was 4 years old and played all the way through college. I also like watching the NFL.
