Here’s a cheer back to the Hayward Field fans from Nick Symmonds and Andrew Wheating, winners Friday of their quarterfinal heats in the men’s 800 meters at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials.

“Oh, my God. I’m thinking it’s just prelims,” Symmonds said. Instead, the crowd was cheering him robustly from start to finish as he came out of the pack to win his heat in 1 minute, 49.01 seconds.
