Simpson, Johnson and Mulder return to Seattle for the Husky Classic, Blankenship to make Debut

Eugene, Ore – Four Oregon Track Club Elite athletes are heading to Seattle, Wash. this weekend for the Husky Classic.

Jemma Simpson and Lauren Johnson will make their second trip to the Dempsey Indoor Facility this year to compete in the mile. On the men’s side, Ben Blankenship will make his OTC Elite debut in the mile and Tyler Mulder will compete in the 800 meters.

Two weeks ago at the Washington Invite, Simpson and Johnson finished first and third in the mile respectively. In that race Simpson ran a time of 4 minutes, 37.96 seconds.

Blankenship, who has been in a rebuilding period since undergoing surgery in September of 2011, will compete in his first race since the summer of 2011.

OTC Elite coach Mark Rowland is looking forward to seeing how Blankenship handles his debut, and is using the race to diversify Blankenship’s training and give him a mark from which to work.

After the invitational miles are contested, Mulder will compete in the 800 meters. His fastest 800 at the Dempsey facility was a 1:48.54 in 2010.
