Oregon Track Club Elite Athlete to Take Season Off

By Scott Bush, DyeStat Editor

Late last month we reported that Olympic and World Championship silver medalist Sally Kipyego, who trains in Eugene with Oregon Track Club Elite, had become an American citizen. Assuming Kipyego competed for the United States, there was plenty of excitement in adding to the depth of the 10,000 meters and marathon ranks.

However, Kipyego made very little mention of actually competing in the red, white and blue, which was a bit curious, as athletes who generally gain American citizenship discuss openly their desire to compete for Team USA.

Well, Kipyego's quiet celebration of her new citizenship makes a bit more sense now, as the Nike-sponsored athlete announced on Instagram that she's pregnant with her first child.

Kipyego joins a growing list of track and field athletes announcing their pregnancies and having children post-Olympics, including legendary sprinter Sanya Richards-Ross making her own announcement earlier this week.
