A New Hampshire native, Russell Brown joined OTC Elite in the Fall of 2008 after graduating from Stanford where he was a 9-time All-American for the Cardinal.

Professional: Russell Brown's 2012 season opened at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix where he went to defend his title in the mile. He raced to 5th in a time of 4:00.79. A week later at the USATF Classic in Fayetteville, Brown dropped 6 seconds in the mile with a 3:54.08 good for 4th place. In preparation for the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Russell took on a couple of 800s in the outdoor season, 1:48.95 and 1:47.61 both at Hayward Field. Russell then went overseas, taking the first stop of the IAAF Diamond League in Doha, Qatar, and leaving with a personal best of 3:34.11 in the 1,500 meters. Later at the local stop of the Diamond League at the Prefontaine Classic, Russell placed second in the International Mile with a 3:54.48. A few weeks later at the U.S. Olympic Trials, Brown ran through the first qualifying round, but suffered a small injury and missed making the finals in his semi-final heat.

The winter of 2011 proved to be a breakout year for the 25-year old Brown. Racing against the likes of Alan Webb and Nick Willis at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, Brown ran away with a surprising victory in the mile, clocking a two-second personal best of 3:54.81. Brown went on to set his indoor 1,500-meter PB a few weeks later in England, with a time of 3:38.17. … Brown continued his success outdoors by clocking a personal best of 3:35.70 in the 1500 at the Mt. SAC Relays. Just a few weeks later, his 800 PR was also reset at the Oxy High Performance Meet, with time of 1:45.83.  At the Pre Classic in Eugene, Brown ran his fastest outdoor mile ever – 3:51.45 – to place ninth in an impressive international field. In the summer, Brown headed overseas to cap off the year with five additional appearances. In all, he ran three 1500’s under 3:40. Brown’s 2010 outdoor season got off to a great beginning when he set his outdoor PR at 1,500 meters at the Oxy High Performance meet in Southern California on May 21. He ran a 3:36.89 that day, setting the OTC team record. Brown went on to clock a 3:56.92 at the Prefontaine Classic in July. Then he went abroad, placing in the top 5 at four straight international races. … In 2009, Brown set his then personal best of 3:37.32 in the 1,500 meters. That time was good enough to make him the seventh fastest American on the year.

College: A nine-time All-American for The Cardinal, Brown represented Team USA at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in the 1,500. He also competed at the 2008 US Olympic Trials in Eugene. … In 2007, Brown placed third in the 1,500 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and won the Pac-10 conference title as a junior. Perhaps Brown’s most celebrated collegiate feat came at the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships, where he anchored Stanford’s Distance Medley Relay team to a national title and was a runner-up in the mile. … In 2006, Brown took fifth at 1,500 meters at NCAAs and was a runner-up at Pac-10 championships. Indoors that year, Brown grabbed an eighth-place finish in the NCAA championship mile. … As a freshman in 2005, Brown earned his first All-American honors as a member of the fourth-place distance medley relay team.

High School: As a prep star at Hanover High School in Hanover, NH, Brown finished third at the 2003 US Junior Track and Field Championships with a time of 1:50.16. He set the New Hampshire state record in that event. Brown also won a state title in cross country as a junior.
