It probably won’t come as a surprise to learn that Jesse Williams plays pickup basketball. He’s a regular at the rec center on the Oregon campus, just a hop, skip and a high jump from Hayward Field. His game can be fairly quiet, though that’s not so much caution as waiting for opportunity. “When I get a hole, I’m gonna go up and slam one down,” he said. What else but ferocious dunks would you expect from the world’s No. 2-ranked high jumper? Williams understands the risks. If he were injured ... oh, boy. But hey, he enjoys the pastime.
